Nyandarua Primary School alumni was started with a goal to restore the school’s lost glory and enrich the pupils’ school experience by making Nyandarua Primary School a better place to study.
Nyandarua Primary School Alumni visited their old school as a group for the first time in 2010. The visit was initiated by Class of 1999 who also founded the NBPS Alumni. After this meeting the class organized small reunions within Nairobi which brought on board more Alumni from across the world. During the visit, Class of 1999 contributed KES. 20,000 which went towards a few projects within the school.
In 2011 they group focused on recruiting more members. This was achieved through networking on social media and they started a group on Facebook, and also Instagram and Whatsapp pages. Alumni from different years felt that there was need for a strategy meeting, this was organized and held in Nairobi at Gazebo on the first week of December 2011, the meeting was chaired by our Patron Dennis Muigo. During this meeting, it was agreed that the Alumni should come up with yearly financial projects and mentorship.
In 2012 the alumni visited the school with many classes represented. They gave motivational talks to the pupils, it was noted that there was immense improvement during the National KCPE which could be partly attributed to the Alumni motivation and support. 5 pupils were admitted to National schools. There was also a bursary fund that the alumni gave to bright and needy children.
In 2015 the alumni bought a generator to serve the whole school as there are constant blackouts in Nyahururu. The Alumni also gave motivation talks during an event where they also brought snacks to school to enjoy with the pupils. Performance again improved during the KCPE exam that year. Over 20 pupils were admitted in National Schools.
In 2016 the NBPS alumni launched the library project. The School allocated one class to be used as a library. The alumni constructed bookshelves and stocked books worth KES. 77,000. The same year, a few of the alumni donated computers for the Library. Parents came on board too and also donated books to fill up the library
In 2017 the alumni decided to increase capacity in the library by purchasing 19 kindles. A few more people donated refurbished computers for the pupils. The Alumni also purchased sports equipment like, Javelin, Short put and Discus. The Alumni also gives professional advice to the school e.g. on Insurance, Safety, drawing strategic plan and proposals etc.
In early 2018 the NBPS alumni launched the Bursary fund in order to keep children from poor backgrounds in school.
The group plans to build a state of the art library in the next 3 years and are using the services of the architects and other professionals within the group to make it happen. They are also looking to partner with organizations that can sponsor some of the works in the school improvement projects such as painting, desks, roofing, fencing, landscaping and so on. Plans are also underway to hold a teacher focused forum in 3rd term 2018 to mentor, train and appreciate them. There are also plans to hold a 10 year anniversary event in 2020 with a bigger project.
Every July there is an Alumni reunion/fun day which focusses on mentoring the campus alumni and networking among alumni. They invite motivational speakers from different fields such as a life coach, career coach, Alumni also share their real life stories.
